Obituary for Norma E. Ackerson

Norma E. (Pensyl) Ackerson passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, August 30, 2018. Born July 30, 1933, Norma spent nearly her entire 85 years living in Elysburg, PA, the community she loved.
Norma retired from the Geisinger School of Nursing after 30 years of service working as the secretary to the Directress of Nursing. She continued to busy herself by spending summers working at Knoebels with her husband, Bim. They were avid antique collectors who enjoyed the hunt as much as the finds! For many years she and Bim could be found on Sundays picnicking at home with friends and family. Norma was a wonderful cook and baker, and thrived on feeding her family. Her apple pie was hands down the best and was the most often requested dessert she made. In her later years when family came to visit, Norma loved to suggest a breakfast at Massers and she'd slyly pay the bill, much to her guests objection.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 29 years: Bim (William) Ackerson, and a son: Richard Green.
Surviving are four children from her first marriage to James Green: Gaye Kauwell and husband Gary of Reading, PA; Jimye Green and companion Cindy Angle of Hershey, PA; Kelly Green and wife Priscilla of Catawissa, PA; Heidi Egitto and fiance Omar Chaljub of Ocala, FL. Eight grandchildren: Carol Kauwell Jones, Rick Steele, Amy Steele, Jennifer Green, Corey Green, Ryan Green, Anthony Egitto, and Alex Egitto. She was also a proud great grandmother of eight.
Services will be at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Animal Resource Center, PO Box 439, Bloomsburg, PA 17815, where she adopted her loving companion, Wesley, who was by her side to the end.
Rothermel-Heizenroth Funeral and Cremation Service, Elysburg, is in charge of the arrangements. Charles Heizenroth III, F.D. Joe Murray, Supervisor.
