Albert F. Kleponis, 94 of 1201 Arch Street, Ashland died Wednesday evening at Geisinger Medical Center , Danville following a motor vehicle accident earlier in the day. Born in Mt. Carmel, PA January 12, 1916 he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Ruskus) Kleponis. He graduated from Ashland High School Class of 1933. He was a United States Army World War I I veteran receiving a special assignment in railroad transport between Wendover, Utah and Portola, California. His working life was spent as a railroad fireman with the Reading Lines and later Conrail, retiring in 1976. He was also employed part time in the office at Sam Shoemaker Chevrolet, Ashland and later at Paul Chevrolet until his retirement. In retirement he enjoyed reading, gardening and U. S. travel, having visited all 50 states . Albert was a member of St. Mauritius Church, Ashland. He served 26 years as Secretary of the American Legion Bernard J. Dolan Post 4344, Ashland and was the oldest member of the American Hose Company #1 in Ashland. He was also a member of the Ashland Elks BPOE 384 . he was preceded in death by sisters Adela Ervin and Alma D'Ostilio ; brothers George and Joseph whose memorial service he attended in California last weekend . Surviving are his wife of 59 years the former Anna Mae Burns; a son Dr. Jerome of Ashland and Catawissa. He is also survived b y sisters Agnes Groody, Ashland; Helen Luttrell, Woodward,PA and Rosemary Coda of Los Angeles CA; and brothers John, Malvern, PA and Francis of Lititz, PA . Many nieces nephews survive. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 1,2010 at 11:00 AM in St. Mauritius Church, Ashland, PA . Rev. John Bambrick officiating. Interment in the Parish Cemetery, Ashland. Visitation Tuesday 9:00-11:00 Am in St. Mauritius Church, Ashland.
