Arlene L. Gutekunst
Arlene Gutekunst formerly of Elysburg, was surrounded by family when she passed peacefully at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community on Wednesday afternoon, September 4, 2024, at the age of 92.
Born in Elysburg, on September 21, 1931, a daughter of the late Bruce and Mary (Mowery) Carl.
Arlene graduated from Ralpho Township High School.
She married William A. Gutekunst, on June 20, 1953, who preceded her in death on September 16, 2006.
Arlene loved her Lord and was a lifelong member of the Elysburg Methodist Church. She lived her entire life in Elysburg until she moved to Fritzingertown Senior Living Community in Drums, in December 2021. She devoted her life to her children, leaving her position as secretary at Merck when her first child was born. From that point on, being a mom was her most important, full- time job. Later in life, after her children were older, she worked in the bakery at the local grocery store for many years. Arlene was such a beautiful person, filled with goodness and compassion. She always had a smile and a kind word to share. Caring for and loving her family was always her top priority, her treasure and her biggest accomplishment. She enjoyed baking, doing puzzles with her granddaughters and great-granddaughter, word searches and listening to Gaither Vocal Band, but her most favorite thing to do was spending time with family and especially visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Carl, West Milton, John Carl, Catawissa and a brother-in-law, Donald Horne, FL.
Survivors include her children; Susan Manney and her husband Dave of Elysburg, Greg Gutekunst and his wife Vida of Elysburg, Lisa Hill and her husband Jeff of Chesapeake, VA, Tina Campbell and her husband Randall of Catawissa, Todd Gutekunst and his wife Charlene of Elysburg and Jeff Gutekunst and his wife Christine of Moscow, PA. She was known as Mam Mam to 13 grandchildren; Nicole, David, Brian, Jill, Jayme, Ryan, Owen, Lucas, Jason, Jeremy, Alisha, Jenna and Katie and their respective spouses, and Great Mam Mam to 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Jean Horne, FL, one brother, Terry Carl and his wife Mary, Laurys Station, and two sisters-in-law, Althea Carl, West Milton and Peg Carl, Catawissa, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
