Darvin ''Tanker'' Smith

Darvin Tanker Smith, 77, of 145 Stein Road Ashland. passed away Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Montour County, PA. Born in Ashland, PA April 23, 1933 he was the son of the late Darvin H. and Margaret (Trathen) Smith. He worked for many years as co-owner of KS Coal Corp., Ashland until his retirement. He was a member of the Operating Engineers He graduated from Ashland High School; was a member of the Gordon Homing Club and loved to race pigeons and watching his grandchildren play sports . He was preceded in death by his first wife Janet A. (Kreamer) Smith in 1996 and a sister Lorene Smith in 1997. Surviving are his wife Shirley (Boedman) Wagner Smith, Ashland,PA. Two daughters one son survive Cathy wife of Rick Edwards of Ashland,PA. Elaine Fetterolf of Ft. Springs,PA. and Howard Smith of Ashland,PA. One sister survives : Betty Wolfgang, Jonestown,PA Eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren survive, Nieces Nephews . Funeral Service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, PA, at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 22nd, with Rev. Dana Heckman-Beil officiating. Interment in Kimmel's Cemetery, Kimmel, PA. Visitation Friday 10:00-12:00 PM. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church., North 9th St. Ashland, PA . Memorial contributions can be made to the Washington Fire Company Ambulance Ass., 13th Center St., Ashland,PA 17921.
