Denis J. Smokowicz

Denis J. Smokowicz, 70, of Venice CA formerly Elysburg passed away on August 7, 2023 at his residence.

Born on January 7, 1953 in Bloomsburg he was the son of the late Mary A. (Lucas) and Alfons M. Smokowicz Sr.

He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes in 1970. Later he graduated from Susquehanna University with a degree in Human Interactions & Anthropology.

Denis was of the Catholic faith and previously attended Queen of Most Holy Rosary Church-Elysburg.

He was an Army veteran.

Denis worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to owning his own telecommunications business. 

Denis was proud of his Polish heritage. He was a member of Shamokin Jaycees, founding member of Ralpho Township Public Library and PA Legislative District.

In addition to his parent’s, he is preceded in death by; wife Marta Smokowicz; brother Alfons M. Smokowicz Jr; sister in law Dorothy Deroba Smokowicz; brother in law John Tondora; nephew John Catino.

Surviving are; sister Carol Catino (Nicholas), Montoursville; sister Donna Leshko (Carl) Wyomissing; sister Mary D. Tondora, Effort; sister Chris Bixler (Chester Sr.), Elysburg; a son and daughter living in CA; 3 grandchildren; many nieces & nephews; godchildren Justin Catino & Gena Bixler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 20, 2023 at 12PM at Queen of Most Holy Rosary Church in Elysburg.  Family and friends are invited to call from 11AM – 12PM prior to mass in the church. Interment will follow services at All Saints Cemetery-Elysburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Denis’s memory to The Ralpho Township Public Library, P.O. Box 315 Elysburg, PA 17824 or Queen of Most Holy Rosary Church in Elysburg.
