Edward “Hook” Humes Jr. of Girardville passed away Sunday morning December 31st at Serenity Gardens in Kulpmont.
“Pop lived a full life, a little over 97 years. He lived his life in service of others, from the coal mines of Schuylkill County to the Pacific theater of World War II in the Navy. He served his community as an educator as well. Most of all he served his family as a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather”.
Born in Mahanoy Plane on November 14, 1926 he was the son of the late Doris (McCaffrey) and Edward Humes Sr.
He was member of the Girardville United Methodist Church for many years.

He was the husband of the late Ruth (Green) Humes who passed in 2010.
He was a machine shop teacher at the former Ashland High School and later Schuylkill Technology Center prior to his retirement.
Hook was a member of American Legion Post 309-Girardville, Good Fellowship Club-Ashland and F&AM Lodge 294-Ashland. He was recently presented with a 75-year Masonic pin.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events.
“We will miss you, Pop. But we will cherish your life and the memories you've left with us. I am at peace because I know that you were ready. I am at peace because I know you are with Jesus, with Grandma, and that you finally have your sight back. I hope you get to do some fishing and play a little golf in heaven too.”
Well done, good and faithful servant. We love you, Pop. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
