Joan M. Harring, 88, of Mount Carmel passed away Wednesday evening, October 18th, at home surrounded by her family.
Born on February 21st, 1935 in Locust Gap, she was the daughter of the late Florence (Maurer) and Cleopas Newton.
Joan graduated from Mount Carmel Area High School in 1953.
She was the wife of the late Robert M. Harring who passed away in 2015.
Joan was of the Christian faith and was a member of Hope Community Church in Mount Carmel.
In her early years, Joan was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mother. As time went on, her jobs consisted of cleaning and being a caregiver.
She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, reading, and puzzle books to pass time. Joan was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and also supported her hometown sports. She was a member of the Mount Carmel Lion’s Club.
Joan is survived by; son Daniel Harring (Glenda), Mount Carmel; son David Harring, Mount Carmel; daughter Donna Shervinski (John), Mount Carmel; brother-in-law Dr. James Harring, Mountain Top; grandchildren Robert, William, Nicholas, Michael, Joshua, Brittany, Allyssa & Ashley; great grandchildren Kirstin, Kayla, Amelia, Bryson, Kiana & Maxwell; nieces Carol & Cathy.
In addition to her husband, Joan is also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Doris Harring.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 25th from 10:00-11:00 AM at Hope Community Church, 551 W. 4th St, Mount Carmel. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will take place following services at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Joan’s memory to Hope Community Church Memorial Fund.
