John R. Smith

John R. Smith 74, of Catawissa passed away Saturday morning October 4, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.  

Born in Shamokin on December 16, 1950 he was the son of the late Jane and Henry Smith.

John was of Presbyterian faith.  He graduated from Shamokin High School in 1968.   He was employed for many years by Swank & Son Pump Company in Elysburg.

He was the husband of Janice “Jan” R. (Troup) Smith.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything outdoors.  He was a talented “all around” handyman.  John was also a longtime member of the NRA.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death his brother Bill Smith and sister Jennie Smith.

John is survived by; spouse Janice “Jan” R. Smith, Catawissa; daughter Jennifer K. Fantigrossi (Michael), Coal Township; son Jason W. Smith (Greg Brown), DE; son Eric Troutman (Theresa), Mount Carmel; daughter Sheli Garland (Russ), NC; daughter Amy Lane, MI; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be private.
