Joseph K. Bass

Joseph Kenneth Bass, beloved brother and dedicated community servant, passed away on August 25th, 2024, at the age of 70. A lifelong resident of Mount Carmel, Joseph began his career as a councilman in the early 1980’s becoming the youngest member of the council at that time. He served as Borough Manager for nearly three decades, tirelessly working for the betterment of the community he cherished. Joe enjoyed camping and watching Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles football. 

A 1972 graduate of Mount Carmel Senior High School, Joseph was also a longtime member of the Mount Carmel Rotary, where he held various leadership roles, including treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president multiple times. His commitment to community service was unwavering.

Diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017, Joseph faced his illness with remarkable strength and resilience. His courage and spirit inspired all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Grace and Joseph Bass of Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania. Joseph is survived by his sister, Deborah Weaver and her husband Scott of Atlas, Pennsylvania; his brother, Daniel Bass and his daughter Kaitlyn of Auburn, Pennsylvania; his youngest sister, Denise, and her husband Eric of Duryea, Pennsylvania; his beloved dog Buddy, his nieces Elizabeth Ulrich; and Casey Dankowski. Also surviving him are his godmother and aunt June Smith of Mount Carmel, and cousins Charmange Cimino and Carol Ann Tarlecki, both of Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.

A funeral service for family and friends will be held at 11 AM on Friday August 30th at Grace United Church of Christ, 136 E. Third St, Mount Carmel PA 17851.  Burial will follow services at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mommy and Me Rescue in Mount Carmel, 610 E 5th St, Mount Carmel PA 17851, an organization that was close to Joseph's heart.
