Joseph G. May III

Joseph G. May III, 79, passed away on February 22, 2023, after a long-fought battle with cancer.  He is the only son of the late Catherine and Joseph May Jr.  

Joe, who was born in Mt. Carmel, graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1961 and owned and operated a beauty salon in town until he moved to California in 1975.  He lived in Venice Beach, Ca and owned and operated a beauty salon in the Beverly Hills area. 

Joe loved living at the beach and was an avid paddle tennis player. He also enjoyed metal detecting in the sand, and fishing throughout the United States, Canada, and the streams around Mt. Carmel. 

In 1985 he returned to his hometown to take care of his mother, opening yet another beauty salon, Joe May’s Cuts & Perms on West Second Street. 

Later in life Joe collected antiques, searching through many local basements, attics, and auctions.  He always had a funny joke to tell and kept us all laughing. 

Joe was a Mason and a member of the Eagles.  

He will be greatly missed by his many friends, relatives, and all those that loved him.  He is survived by his sister, Bonnie, of California, a niece Julianne, of Florida, a nephew Jay of Colorado, and a great niece Kyrstin, of California. 

The family wishes to thank those friends who devotedly were with him throughout his long illness; who provided transportation, food, companionship, and were there to comfort him until the very end of his life. God bless you all. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday April 22, 2023 at Mount Carmel Cemetery Chapel 2320 Locust Gap Highway Mount Carmel, PA 17851. Following the service at the cemetery there will be a gathering of family and friends at the American Legion Post 804 – Atlas Legion 11637 PA-61 Mount Carmel, PA 17851 from 2-6pm.

I love you my Brother.  Rest in peace.
