Lois (Cleaver) Shuttlesworth

Lois Cleaver Shuttlesworth, 84, of Center Street, Ashland. loving wife of 60 years and devoted mother and grandmother entered into eternal life Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 . Born in Ashland, PA May 28, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothea (Granzow) Cleaver . She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Ashland . She graduated from Ashland High School in 1942 and the Pennsylvania State University in 1945 with a BS in Education. Lois began teaching at Hegins Twp. High School followed by a long career at Ashland Elementary and later North Schuylkill Elementary where she worked as a reading specialist until her retirement. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ashland Area Historical Society; Ashland order of the Eastern Star; Church Council; Former member of the Ft. Springs Country Club; and the Schuylkill County Literacy Council Volunteer. Lois had a life of joy shared with family and friends. She loved to travel and support her Nittany Lions. She was an avid reader, bridge player and enjoyed spending time by the pool. Her compassion was evident by her generosity towards others . Surviving are her husband of 60 years Jack E. Shuttlesworth, Ashland. One daughter two sons : Gail wife of Jeffery Hoffman, Gordon, PA; John husband of Mary Shuttlesworth, Ft. Springs; and Steven husband of Sue Shuttlesworth of Pompton Place, N.J. One sister survives: Christine West, Rochester Hill, Michigan Four grandchildren: Dr. Allison Ray; Lauren Hoffman; Aaron Jack Shuttlesworth; and Molly Shuttlesworth. One great grandson survives: David Ray. Funeral Services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, PA, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 3rd, with Rev. Dana Heckman-Beil officiating. Interment at Christ Church Cemetery, Ft. Springs, PA. Visitation Friday 6:00-8:00 PM. at Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home and Saturday 10:00-11:00 AM from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, PA .
