Lois U. (Umlauf) Damiani

Lois Umlauf Damiani died Sunday, May 2, surrounded by her family at home in Ashland, PA, following a lengthy illness. She was 83. Born in Girardville, PA, she was the only daughter of Frank Edward, Sr. and Jessie Lynd Umlauf. She attended Girardville schools and graduated from Girardville High School in 1944. She continued her education at Protestant Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA, graduating as a registered nurse in 1947. Mrs. Damiani worked as a nurse in Philadelphia area hospitals and private practices before moving to Orwigsburg. She was married to Sylvie "Cy" Damiani, of Philadelphia, who preceded her in death in 1972. For 32 years she was the loving companion of Harry "Nipper" Knock, who died in 2007. Mrs. Damiani was a lifelong contributing member of the Primitive Methodist Church of Girardville, where she served as treasurer of the Sunday School class and participated in numerous fundraising projects for church youth and missions. She was also an officer of the Higher Up Park Association for 14 years, and was responsible for fundraising projects contributing to improvements to the park. While an active member of Eastern Star for many years, she also served as Worthy Matron of the Ashland chapter from 1979 - 1980. Mrs. Damiani was preceded in death by four brothers, Lynd, John, Frank and Richard. She is survived by five nieces: Judith Young, Missouri; Doris Tomeo, Riverside; Cathy Walls, Elizabethtown; Marta Savitsky, Kulpmont; and Penny Harrell, Missouri; two nephews, Richard Umlauf, Hawaii; and James Umlauf, Kulpmont; devoted great nephew Michael Young, additional grand nephews and nieces; and a close cousin, Marion Menapace. Funeral Services will he held Thursday, May 6,2010 at 11:00 AM from the Kull-Heizenroth al Home, Ashland, PA. Rev. Daniel DeSchoolmester officiating. Interment in Brock Cemetery, Ashland, PA. Visitation Wednesday 6:00-8:00 PM from the Funeral home and Thursday 10:00 AM til time of Service.
