Mary Rita (Colahan) Coyne

Mary Rita Coyne, 89, of 339 Walnut St. Ashland, PA died Friday, March 26,2010 at Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, PA. Born in Ashland May 19,1920 she was the daughter of the late James h. and Catherine (Burke) Colahan. She was a Member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ashland. Graduated from St. Joseph Roman Catholic High School, Ashland and the Ashland State General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1942. She was employed by the former Ashland State General Hospital as an operating room nurse before she married . In the 1960's she returned to work in the labor and delivery rooms. In the 1970's she also worked at the Broad Mt. Manor Nursing Home, Frackville and as a private duty nurse. She was a longtime member of and past regent of the Catholic Daughters of America; Court St. Joan of Arc, Ashland and the Catholic Nurses Association of Schuylkill County. She was also a member of the Friends of St. Joseph organization in Ashland. She volunteered as a nurse with the American Red Cross Blood Services into the 1990's and was also a member of the Catholic Nurses Guild of Schuylkill County. She was preceded in death by her husband James W. Coyne in 1977. Three sisters preceded her in death: Margaret Bodman, 1997; Sister M. Nora Colahan,I.H.M.., 2004;and Marie Hartenstein, 1989. A brother Thomas J. Colahan died in 1993. Surviving are four sons one daughter: James W. husband of Kathleen Coyne, Fairfax, VA; Thomas P. Coyne who resided with her and was her primary caretaker; William j. husband of Paula Coyne, Schuylkill Haven R.D.,PA; Michael A. husband of Janie Coyne, Selinsgrove,PA and a daughter Nora Coyne Cordero who also resided with her and was her caregiver. Eleven grandchildren:Christopher Coyne, Michelle Coyne and Ryan Coyne; Maureen Coyne, Megan Coyne and Michael Coyne; Carla Neuberger, Sean Coyne and James Coyne; Claire Coyne and Anne Coyne. Great grandchildren surviving: Owen and Amy Neuberger and Caitlyn Coyne; Nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian burial will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Joseph's Church, Ashland, PA . Rev. John Bambrick officiating. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ft. Springs, PA. Visitation Monday evening 6:00-8:00 P.M. from the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, PA and Tuesday 9:30-10:30 A.M. from the Funeral Home.
