Phyllis E. Boyer

Phyllis Elaine Boyer, 98, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born in Paxinos, PA, on December 26, 1924, the daughter of the late Fred and Elmira Snyder. 

After graduating from Shamokin High School, Phyllis attended Lebanon Valley College, obtaining a degree in French and English. Her degree earned her a position teaching English, Latin, and French at Ralpho Township High School and later taught Latin and French at Southern Columbia High School, where she completed a thirty-one-year career. Phyllis returned after retirement as a substitute teacher for an additional ten years. Phyllis’ former students, particularly Shelly and Lori, admired her endearing personality and became her life-long friends. Her greatest life accomplishment was her effect on others. As much as Phyllis loved teaching, her church, Elysburg Presbyterian, was equally important in her life. She served in many capacities within her church over the years, but her favorite ministry was her Breakfast with Jesus.

Above all, spending time with friends and family was paramount to Phyllis. Phyllis’ grandson, Chris, was the apple of her eye. She experienced the greatest happiness in his presence and cherished the opportunity to watch him grow and mature from a busy toddler to a young athlete, and eventually to a successful adult. Phyllis was Chris’ biggest fan, faithfully attending his sporting events or other ventures. Phyllis also found joy in sitting outside with her neighbors in the warmer months, as they would faithfully congregate in the driveway at 6 pm to chat. Phyllis was a kind-hearted, gentle, and loving woman who inspired all who knew her. Anyone who had the pleasure of the company of Phyllis, whether for a long or short period of time, could feel her love and compassion for others. Phyllis also felt blessed with her many friends, especially those who helped her to maintain her independence and those who faithfully cared for her in her final days. The multitude of cards, visits, and thoughtful words meant the world to Phyllis. Though Phyllis lived a long life, her friends and family will always wish for more time with her. 

Phyllis is preceded in death by her son Bob and sister Betty. 

Phyllis is survived by; grandson Chris Boyer and his fiancée Teresa Banecker, Philadelphia; daughter-in-law Sue Boyer, Hummelstown; sister Joyce Burd, Northumberland; many and nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 15th from 2-4 PM at the Elysburg Presbyterian Church, 320 W. Valley Ave, Elysburg PA 17824.  A service will be held on Wednesday, March 15th at 4 PM in the church.  Private burial will follow services at Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Phyllis’s memory to Lebanon Valley College, 101 N. College Ave, Annville PA 17003.
